During my adventures in Colombia, I had the chance to visit Nestor Lasso’s farm high above the village of Bruselas. He picked me up and drove me up the mountain, where his farm sits with an incredible 360° view. His family welcomed me with homemade cakes and coffee, and Néstor proudly walked me through his fields, showing the new varieties and processes he has been developing. Later, we went down to his coffee lab in town and cupped his stunning coffees late into the evening — each one more expressive than the last.
Néstor and his brother Adrián are passionate young farmers carrying forward their family legacy. Just five years ago, they partnered with Jhoan Vergara to form El Diviso, combining their family farms near Pitalito. With support from Cata Export, they’ve pioneered new fermentation techniques, pushing Colombian coffee to new heights and earning recognition on international competitions.
